That makes some sense actually (after reinstalling XP)...My general copy/paste how to fix it and the link you need is below...If your Stand By and or Hibernate buttons on the Turn Off Computer menu are missing, greyed out or inactive:Have the options on the Turn Off Computer menu ever worked properly before?Have you recently installed, reinstalled, updated or repaired your Windows XP?Has anything on your system been changed that has anything to do with your video display and/or monitor? What do you think happened since the last time the Turn Off Computer menu options worked properly? If the buttons used to work and if you just installed Windows, reinstalled Windows, did a Repair Install, used a System Restore point (or otherthings along those lines), you probably need to update your video drivers as well to restore the functionality to the buttons. If the video drives on your system are not correct, those buttons often will not work.Usually, and easy to check and correct, is the video drivers for your system that should be downloaded from your manufacturers World Wide Web site. Download the correct (current) video drivers for your graphics adapter, install the correct video drivers, reboot your system, then test.If you can't figure out how to check if your video drivers are correct, can't figure out how to get to the manufacturers World Wide Web site, orcan't figure out what do next, perhaps we can look it up for you if you provide more information. What is your system make and model? What is your XP version and Service Pack? There are Hibernation fixes in Service Pack 3, so if you are not on SP3, you need to be.If you are not sure about what you have, do this:Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste back here. For video driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it.This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork, trying things and assumptions.Looking at the Dell WWW site, the drivers for your Dimension E521 are here:http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_E521&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=FalseDo, or do not. There is no try.I decided to save up points for a new puppy instead of a pony!
