MBAM clears up the majority of infections including the spoof AVs. Download the free Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ If you cannot boot the machine, download and create the Ultimate Boot CD on a working machine, here http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23100-page,1-c,utilities/description.html Once the CD has been made, boot your PC into the CD. It has its own ‘operating system’ so you will have full access to your infected hard drive. Built into the CD you get a number of ‘anti’ programs. Just run them and select your hard drive files. Follow the instructions for each of the programs to remove malware.

Yes, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is great program. SUPERAntiSpyware is another great program that will help with your security. Some anti-virus programs overlap this area. I'm thinking of Avira AntiVir Personal Premium.

Hi, To clear any virus or spyware, please try to download and install Microsoft Security Essentials, and then upgrade to the latest virus definition. After that, please run a complete scanning to check whether there is any virus on the machine. For your reference, I have enclosed the download link below: Microsoft Security Essentials Thanks, Novak

Microsoft Security Essentials did not work for this issue. The trojan Windows 7 Recovery was smarter than Microsoft Security Essentials and would not allow the full download process to complete. I am still searching for a solution and will try Malwarebytes. Thanks

It's very 'smart.' it blocked mbam setup until i renamed the directory name mbam uses for itself and the startmenu folder name. i cant do anything in normal but can run mbam and msse neither has caught it yet. both updated in 'safe mode with networking'
