networking xp and vista for use on the internet
hello i have recently brought a new computer with vista on it and i have been trying to connect my xp computer to it using wireless networking and a broadband router however i find that the xp computer does not detect the vista computer at all and further more cant even access the internet...... can anyone help my fix these problems?????

It would help if you supplied a bit more detailed information. I'll use my setup as an example I have a cable modem going into a 4 port residential gateway I have 2 machines connected via ethernet to the gateway The gateway is set to issue static IPs to the computers From reading yours I'm guessing that you have a broadband modem going into your residential gateway from there you have a Vista machine connected (wired or wireless) You want your XP machine to connect to your vista machine to go through it to access the internet. If that's the case you need to check your vista machine to see if Internet connection sharing is enabled, and you could try turning off your windows firewall on the vista machine (since your residential gateway uses a hardware firewall) to see if maybe the windows firewall if blocking the XP machine from seeing the Vista machine.
