networking in vista
I have a PC with Vista Home Premium, and just got a laptop with Vista Home Basic. I can not for the life of me network them. When I had XP, it was easy. Once I actually did get them networked, but it wouldn't allow me into the files on either. Then I went back in and the network was gone. Now I have them where they see each other again, but when I try to access the other computer i get the message: Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click diagnose. There is an error number here it is: 0x80070035. When I click diagnose i get: "LAPTOP" is not a valid host name. Check the spelling of the name, make sure the computer is turned on and connected to the network or contact your network administrator. PLEASE HELP ME LOL. Thanks so much!

Hello momwaddle, Thank you for your post! It would be helpful if you can provide the following information so we can further diagnose this issue: 1. Is the machine connected to a router or access point? If so, what is the make and model of the device? 2. What Antivirus/Firewall software do you have installed on the machine? 3. Can you provide the ipconfig/all output? To do so, please perform the following steps: 3.1 On Windows Vista machine, click Start, click Programs, click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt. 3.2 At the Command Prompt window type: ipconfig/all 3.3 Click the iconin the menu bar on the left, click Edit, thenclickSelect All. 3.4 Click on the icon again, and choose Copy. 3.5 Then paste the ouput into your next reply. -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Networking) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com

If you haven't already, be sure to properly configure the firewall program on either computer for the local area network. If the problem persists, then temporarily disable or uninstall the firewall program and see if that resolves the problem. With Norton Internet Security, be sure to add the ip addresses to the Trusted Zone as described here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sunset-c2002kb.nsf/0/d4fb44fef8df3a8985256ede00518e08?OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Networking) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com
