network sharing - Windows 7
I am using two laptops in my home wireless network. Network is set as "Home network" and in firewall set as "trusted network". I have selected "share - nobody" option for the folders in both laptops but still the folders and files of one laptop are visible
in the Network folder of the other one (and viceversa). Is this normal? I would have expected that only the shared folders/files be visible.
Furthermore, if the Network folder allows me to access another computer folders, why the need for the Homegroup feature?
Thanks!

Hi,
The issue can be caused by incorrect sync. I suggest restarting two laptops to check the result. In addition, please refer to the following steps to check if the
folder is shared.
Please right click the folder -> Properties -> Sharing Tab -> Advanced Sharing… -> uncheck the option for Share this folder.
About the HomegGroup information, you can refer to the following article.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/homegroup
In a word, compared with sharing, it is easy to access your library, printer without complicated settings.

I have restarted both computers but no result. I have tried in several ways to make folders not visible (not shared) but still everything is visible. I suspect that it might be because I have used the same username and password for boyh computers. It is
very strange.
Thanks!

Hi,
I would like to confirm if the visible folder can be accessed when sharing is stopped?
Also, please click Start -> type: services.msc in the Start Search box -> Press Enter to open Services Windows. Let's find the following services and restart
them.
Link-layer Topology Discovery Mapper
Network List Service
Network Location Awareness services
If the issue persists, you can create a new user account to check the result.

SokolAlb, I have a couple of questions:
1. Are you so using the Homegroup feature or did you just mention it in passing?
2. You said you used the same name and password on both computers. Is this the same account you used to create the folder to begin with? If so, have you attempted to view the files as a different user?

Hi,
For sharing the files from one computer to another on a network, you need to share a folder on your computer.
Then it will provide all the files in the folder visible to the computers on a network.
You have to make a user account to connect to a network. Unauthorized users cannot access the shared files.
To access the shared files, you have to connect your computer to the network.
You need user permission for sharing files.
If you want to share all the documents in the “My Documents’ folder, you have to open ‘MY Documents’ and have to click the up button on the ‘toolbar.’
Then you can select the ‘My Documents’ folder and share it to the network.
Get more information to
Network Sharing with Windows XP and Windows 7. Hope this helps you.
