network share saving issues
So we redirect the user folders to the server, so all users docs are saved in \\servername\users\%username% For some reason I & others can no longer save changes to office documents. i read through some other threads and the suggested fix is to put the everyone permission on the redirected folder. That simply is not an option as we cannot have everyone have the ability to read other users document folders! Now I canont update any spreadsheets, word docs, project files on the share without saving as a copy to the local win 7 machine, then I can do a move and replace. When trying to save updates by hitting the save button (gee who'd wnat to do that?) it alwasy just gives, "Document not saved (ok) was this info usefull" I always give them no this info was worthless, how about telling me where in the process it failed so there is somethign go work from, not just useless fluff with an ok... Oh it worked fine for months and this recently has started up, we run a native 2003 domain. Lastly it does save an item into the share, in fact it looks like the document has the proper extension and name but it is a 0kb file that will not open, orginal opens fine with orginal data. Here is another thread that talks on it, but is more Vista/Sharepoint related. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/822ad59e-87cf-472f-829d-6fd13ba4462d/

Hi, May I know if the issue is that you could not save the Microsoft Office documents or all kinds of files could not be saved in the share?Nicholas Li - MSFT

It is all types of documents. I resolved the problem by removing all permissions on the network share on server and added back in just the primary user as owner an full control. I then removed auto mapping the drive from AD and rebooted machine. This time when i manually mapped the share it started to work. When this comes up now I do the same steps to resolve, then setup the auto map again and things work fine. Not sure what causes the issue.
