Make sure that the wireless adapter is turned on.

Try using a Troubleshooter.  E.g. just trying to open a web page gives you an opportunity to try one.  In fact, doing that gave me a message which none of the others had shown me or given me any indication of, even though they were probably the more relevant troubleshooters to have been trying (when trying to resolve a related problem scenario.)  I guess all troubleshooters are not as complete as they might be.   <eg>
