network connection issue
Experiencing the following: Networked to another remote computer. I can click on the 'network' icon and the system will go out and find all the shareable connections available. I can access the files etc without any problem from that window. However, if I am working on a file that is not network sourced (on my own computer or trying to save a download) and try to save it to a location on the network, I am unable to access the network. If I browse the tree to 'network' and click on it to try and expand the tree to the desired location, the only location that is available is the shared folder on my own computer. Cannot browse to or display the other networked locations. The only way I have been able to save and place a file to a remote location is to create a shortcut on my desktop to the desired drive. Then during the 'saving' process I browse to 'desktop', find the icon of the remote location, click, and the remote location opens immediately, I have complete access to wherever I need to go. Why can I not get there by clicking on 'network' and browse through the available shared locations? Never had any problem with XP, and although I am not sure (memory), I think I could do that prior to installing SP1. Thanks for any input

Hi, After reading your post. I realised the reason for you computer not being able to access the remote location. It might be due to connection timed out. Alternative suggestion is using the below method to access the remote location. Currently do you have full access rights to the remote location ? \\servername\folder-directoryGuowen Su | CCNA, CCIP, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP, CEH | http://www.microsoft.com/en/sg/default.aspx Our Goal? I think if you re-read my detailed description there is not a time out issue or 'access rights' issue. Because I can easily access through the desktop icon created to access the remote drive, or the desktop 'network' icon. Regards

Hi, Before going further, please let me know the following information. 1. How about typing the location directly from the address bar when trying to save the file? 2. Could it find the place and show under Network list? 3. Are the computers in a domain? 4. Does this issue occur on every computer? Also check if the following thread is helpful. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/9e36528a-961f-4da9-af98-e670ca1e9d45 Best Regards, NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
