I am running windows 8.1 and need to bridge a wireless connection (connected to laptop) thru my LAN going to a camera system? I tried doing the way it would be done with windows 7 or vista but it does not work that way at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated>

How did you create the network bridge ? Can you view the bridge in the connections list ?
Network bridge can be used to connect different networks and enable communication between them .To create a network ,we can refer to this link:

When you create the bridge,have you got any error messages ?

I am using windows 8.1 and when I tried to do the directions for win7, I noticed the following:

I could not highlight both of the networks using the control key and when I right clicked (for the previous reason) I did not get a bridge option.  Please let me know how this can be done in windows 8.1.

The issue is both of the two networks can`t be highlighted by pressing the Ctrl or you can highlight them but no bridge choice ? If it is possible ,please post a screenshot here.

If you can highlight both the adapters ,try this ,check the bridge connection in the advanced tab:

If both of the adapters cannot be highlighted ,try the solutions I have posted before ,update the adapter and diagnostic the adapter with tool.

Apart from this ,you may need to check the sharing tabs of the  properties.Here is a link for reference:

Thanks for the help.  I did figure out the above issue.  I discovered 2 different ways of opening the network area, but only one of the ways (going thru search on the right side of screen) got me to the correct control panel that allowed me to bridge as directed in your link.  So I have figured that issue out.

Now another issue has arose:  when I open the camera program an error message comes up "an instance is already running".  Now I'm assuming that it meant that the program was already running, but when I open task manager, it is not listed.  I tried deleting and reinstalling the program but it won't let me delete it, basically for the same reason "a file is in use and can't be deleted".  Is there somewhere else in win 8.1 that I can go to see whats running?

Run ProcMon to see what is going on.  What if it is implemented as a service?  You would have to know what its module name and service name were.  I suppose you could try using  tasklist  /svc  in a command window to at least enumerate everything that way.
