netsh advfirewall error when trying to enable ICMP echo
I am trying to enable ping using the command line as part of a post-imaging task. I've copied and pasted the commands from this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947709
I get the error listed below when I run the netsh advfirewall command to enable ping. I am able to run the deprecated command successfully, however.
The system is running Windows 7 Enterprise.
C:\Users\Administrator>netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="ICMP Allow inco
ming V4 echo request" protocol=icmpv4:8,any dir=in action=allow
A specified value is not valid.
...
C:\Users\Administrator>netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8
IMPORTANT: Command executed successfully.
However, "netsh firewall" is deprecated;
use "netsh advfirewall firewall" instead.
For more information on using "netsh advfirewall firewall" commands
instead of "netsh firewall", see KB article 947709
at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=121488 .
Ok.
