net use LPT Printers (USB & TCP IP) are not forwarded by mstsc.exe with Windows 7 (Enterprise)
1.) Add a (usb- connected) printer on your Windows 7 (Enterprise) with net use:>cmd>net use lpt2: \\Notebook\OkiML3390 /persistent:yes(Check that everything is working here and the printer ist connected correctly)2.) Start mstsc.exe on Windows 7 an connect to a Windows Server 2003 (R2) with the RDP Client. (Be sure that "ports" are forwarded/connected with the RDP Client Session). Log in as Admin on this Server.3.) Test the tsclient ports on the connected Server 2003>cmd>change port /queryNet use lpt Ports are not forwardet here.

To check if the port is forwarded, I suggest you open Notepad, click File->Print. Then check if there is a printer [printer name](redirected) is present. If so, the LPT port should be forwarded properly. If the printer is not present, I suggest you check related policy. Please: 1. Open gpedit.msc from Start Search box.2. Navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection. 3. In the right pane, check the setting of Do not allow LTP port redirection.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Thank You Arthurfor Your answer (Monday, November 30, 2009 8:43 AM)1.) I have checked the File->Print (local) and the Printer was present but if i check it on the Server2003 (via RDP) no printer was present - PORTS are forwarded!2.) I have checked net use (local), the printer is connected!Status Lokal Remote Netzwerk -------------------------------------------------------------------------------OK LPT2 \\Notebook\OkiML3390 Microsoft Windows NetworkDer Befehl wurde erfolgreich ausgefhrt. 3.) I have checked gpedit (local):Device and Resource Redirection was on "Default" (allowed) and giving Permission heredid not solve this problem!Thank You

Yes!!!-(I have the Windows 7 Enterprise DEMO Verison - Trial for 90 Days - can it be that this is the reason (due to any restrictions?) May be that is the reason. The RDP version in the system you installed may be different. It works in our official version Windows 7 systems.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I figured I would reuse this thread since I have a very similar issue. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit client connecting to a remote desktop on a 2003 Server. Still using a DOS application, so I need multiple LPT ports assigned to printers. LPT1 is a dot matrix printer connected to the parallel port on the client computer. I created a share for it. LPT2 is a laser printer with a network connection shared from the server. LPT3 is a laser printer with a USB connection shared from another client computer on the domain. I have the three NET USE commands done on the client. From the client machine I can use the PRINT command to print a text file on all three printers fine. When the client computer runs a remote desktop session to the server where that DOS application runs, the net use command shows the three printers assigned to \\TSCLIENT\LPT1 2 and 3 properly. Printing is fine to the dot matrix printer both through the application, and by printing a text file with the PRINT command. Printing to either laser printers sends something to them, so there is a connection made. The output is messed up though. The last line prints first, then sentences are misplaced or missing. Also the apostrophe symbol is replaced with the “AE” symbol. I checked the binary and ‘ is 00100111 while AE is 10010010. This isn’t coming from a bit off somewhere. Does anyone have a solution, or even a way to troubleshoot this? Thanks
