If your mother is still getting redirected to rogue security sites, her computer isn't clean. You might want to take another run at it, making sure you do the preparatory work first. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware As for what to tell your mother, I can give you a lot of useful links but only she can change her ways. We have a saying in the tech world that if a user has a choice between installing a screensaver of dancing pigs and being secure, the dancing pigs will win every time. It isn't very nice but unfortunately it is true in Real Life(tm). ;-) http://www.microsoft.com/protect/default.aspx http://www.getsafeonline.org/ https://www.mysecurecyberspace.com/ http://www.getnetwise.org/ http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/staying-safe.pdfMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

As long as you have updated Anti-Virus ,Anti-Spyware such as MSE and also Windows Firewall is on and Windows is keep update and have latest service pack then it would be fine. Check Windows Security Center to know what else you need to do(in control panel). I recommend you to run a full scan ininfected PC and make sure real time protection is on (MSE status is green). Then it would take care of Virus. If you are using internet explorer 8, then make sure smartscreen filter is on (safety->smartscreen filter) , it will block Malware and if not you could report unsafe website (safety->smartscreen filter->report unsafe website). If you still see infection and redirection ,contact support: https://support.microsoftsecurityessentials.com/
