My new laptop computer (toshiba satellite L500D-16L) with windows 7 Home Premium was downloading updates when I turned it off (after I got the wireless internet) I didn't know anything about the updates and hadn't clicked to allow them. So I tried to get rid of the updates by removing programs via 'control panel' then 'add or remove programs'. I did something wrong (I think) because when I turned the computer back on, the tab at the side of the desktop which accesses the webcam had gone, and when I went into 'all programs' to find it and clicked (it was still there in the menu), it said in a box that came up:C:\Program Files (x86)\TOSHIBA Web Camera Application\ TWebCamera.exeThe application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe for detail.the box had a red circle with an X in it and you could only click 'ok' in the boxI have tried 'system restore' but i'm not sure it has workedI don't know what to do at all because I don't understand what the box said so please help!I'm no computer expert at all so please give me a solution I will understand.

First thing when you turned it on, it prompted you if you wanted Windows to keep it updated and you probably just clicked yes without paying that much attention to it. The biggest pitfall for novice users is not paying attention to details of what popup dialog boxes say. You normally wouldn't remove updates and should never turn off the computer during the installation process. You also have to be extremely carful of what it is you are uninstalling and by the Program Fils x86 this tells me you have the 64bit Windows 7 Home Pre. edition.Now what I'm curious about is with your new laptop computer, you should have received both a Windows 7 DVD and a Tobhiba device driver disk. If you have the device driver (or application cd), just insert it and choose what applications that need reinstalled. However since this is a new laptop, I would call Toshiba technical support and have them guide you on fixing what you broke.If your system restore worked, then all your applications should work, however, we don't know if you're using the built in Toshiba restore (back to factory specs) is what you did, because normally Windows 7 wouldn't have a restore point to work from unless a couple of things happened. One is you manually created one before you did anything else on the system or 2. Your computer would have created a restore point when the updates started to apply in which case it'll create one before any system changes are made, BUT since you turned off the computer during what you think is the downloading stage (are you sure? are you sure it wasn't installing the updates?) then the restore point is lost. At this point we don't really know what all you did. If the system restore worked, everything should be like it was when you bought it - What dialog box appeared that you don't understand? My advice is again, contact Toshiba Technical Support and let them help you while its under warranty.
