What about msg.exe through the 2 computers. Each can ping itself and each other successfully. Cant get it to work and spent days trying. I cant change the compatibility for msg.exe to work as server either. There is a linksys router and both have windows firewall. Both comp on Win 7 Ultimate. Oh, and I have already changed the registry value to 1. Please help

We are all on the homegroup~(using the same password I set up), something must be wrong. Please walk me through this like a 2 year old. She either dont exist or is disconnected according to msg.exe. Is it because she is on a wan?

Hi JamieRN2006 Your latest post confuses me a little as you are talking about a HomeGroup and a WAN............whereas I think you mean a LAN You don't have to know the username...just the computer name. You can place an "*" in place of the username to send to all session that are logged into a specific computer at once. So for any normal workstation it would just be one user. Syntax example sending to a computer called "TestComp01" with a message of "Hi, this is a test message." msg /server:TestComp01 * Hi, this is a test message. You can also add the switches of /v /w between * and the message to give you a read out of when it was sent and when the user presses "OK". she uses the internet wirelessly through the router. I tried it this morning and it says "access is denied" ex: msg server/Alana-PC * hi error 5 access is denied msg Alana hi alana does not exist or is disconnected BUT (myself)....... msg Jamie hi WORKS I can msg myself! Just not the other computer that she is on Maybe there is a port or something I have to do to enable msg.exe? I even tried msg /homegroup thinking it will make a difference, Im so lost

Hi I think the next step that you need to try is to open a Command Prompt and run IPCONFIG /all on each machine. Make a note of the opposite machines IP address and then try a Ping command by typing Ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where these numbers are from the other machine You should be able to see a response. If any part of this fails, then you will need to post all of the stats information in your reply so that a fuller analysis can be made. Ping successful~name on her pc is Alana-PC and user name is Alana (checked) I have a copy of ipconfig/all on hers and my computer but dont know how to send it in reply because i copied it in paint so it can be enlarged. What stats do you need to know so i can type em in. Should I enable netbios? it is disabled on both computers

Ok I just thought of something....is the certain windows features I need to have turned on or off? Like MSMQ or simple TCPIP??? Maybe? Ah geez! Merry Christmas!

No I didnt :-( A million combos and I cant seem to figure it out. Spent hours and nothing! If anyone out there can help, Id love it!
