moving my music folder
In windows 7 Professional I used the Properties>location>move commands to move the "my music" folder location to another drive. It completed the move but a "music" folder is left in the user's c drive. What is that about and the music folder have to stay there? It would not delete (it was emptied). thx

I believe that this behavior is "as designed". The move command should move all the music to the new location and then update the UserShellFolder option in the registry to point to the new location. I do not believe that the folder can be deleted. if you open up the old folder, are you redirected to the new location?

Hi bcl_lib, I have tested the issue on my Windows 7 Ultimate x32 version and the issue could not be reproduced. My Music folder moved entirely without remaining the Music folder. It is possible certain third party software is causing this issue. You can try the following suggestions to check the result. 1. Go to the new location where the folder moved to. 2. Right click on My Music folder, click Properties. 3. On the Location tab, click "Restore Default". Go to the original location and see if the folder can be restored. If so, please continue to perform the following steps. 1. Click Start, enter GPedit.msc in the Start Search box. 2. Open the following branch. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Audit Security 3. Enable the following policies: Audit account logon events Audit object access 4. Open Windows Explorer, open your user account folder. 5. Right click the folder "My Music", choose Properties->Security. Click the Advanced button. 6. Click the Auditing tab. Click Continue. 7. Click Add. Then click Advanced. 8. Click the button Find Now. 9. Wait for the process finishes. Then from the users list add the following users. ANONYMOUS LOGON BATCH CREATOR OWNER Everyone Guests LOCAL SERVICE NETWORK NETWORK SERVICE SERVICE SYSTEM 10. After selecting each user, choose Delete and Delete subfolders and files as the auditing entries. If you would like to check which account was trying to remove items in the folder, please open Event Viewer, check the Windows Logs\Security Log for detail information. Also, you can test if the issue occurs in a new user account. Hope this helps. Regards, Linda
