mouse halts very often with a bell sound
I hv recently installed WIN 7 RC1 (64 bit) and everything seems to be fine except that my USB mouse has suddenly started behaving erratically and it halts momentarily quite often and it starts working immediately with a bell sound. It is quite irritating. Can someone please suggest some solution to fix this?

rchhaparia -Exactly what sort of rodent do you have? Microsoft? Logitech? No-Name mystery brand? HP? Dell? Is it optical or is it an older rodent with a ball in the bottom?Which drivers get installed for it under Windows 7? Do you have any special software (such as MS Intellipoint) installed?

I have am currently on Window 7 RC at the moment and I have the same problem. The mouse just stops in its tracks and I hear a do do sound then it comes back. It might do it 3 times in a row or it might not come back after a couple hours but it is irratating when playing games. I was using a Razer Deathadder mouse when it started then I switched to a Logitech MX510 both opticals. The MX510 didnt do it for a while then it came back. Ive tried drivers for both. If you know any fixes without reinstalling windows it would help Thanks

Had the same problem, I think, on an old wired optical mouse. Cursor freezes. Bells boing. Some one asked, "Broken wire?" oooops...... Turned it over, jiggled the wire, light went on and off, bells boinged. I installed a new wireless optical mouse and the problem went away.

I have the same problem. so here's the details with mine. My laptop is an HP G42 series that came with a windows 7. My laptop mouse uses a Logitech Mouse M125. the mouse doesn't come with a program. Both are new, about 4 days old, and I haven't installed a lot of programs yet. I checked my mouse with my desktop, it worked. I checked the usb port, it worked. I looked up the site of logitech, and it said there that the M125 is compatible. I was able to make it work for the past 3 days, so I know they are really compatible. I haven't dropped the mouse for that matter, nor the laptop obviously. Logitech suggested to remove the mouse and plug it again. I did that it worked for a couple of seconds, then that sound would come. It's the same sound that appears whenever I turn the laptop finger pad mouse thingie on/off. I tried plugging it to the other ports, same thing. Right now the mouse is working, and my mouse is present in the the drivers and printers. Just now, it suddenly got disabled and I don't see my mouse in the drivers and printers anymore. and now the mouse is working again as I type this. It is quite irritating. I don't mind the sounds, but the inconvenience is just too much. I don't want to change my mouse since it just got bought and going to the store and claiming it's not working is a big lie. I really don't think it's the hardware. Can anyone suggest a solution for my mouse to work normally, like the good mouse it was yesterday? plugging and unplugging it over and over might do more damage to the usb port. I just want to be careful. How can I prevent this from happening again? and can you please tell me why, how and what is happening because of that. I didn't bother making a new thread since the question here is unanswered. I'm new to windows 7, I have no idea what safe mode is like. but I'm willing to follow instructions just so I can fix this.
