mouse delay when typing
Whenever I switch from typing to using the mouse there is a slight delay where my screen freezes up. I've been using this machine since July 2010 and the issue started a few weeks ago. Started the comp in safe mode and the issue was gone. I wouldn't mind the delay except that it can be a big problem in 3D gaming. Thanks in advance.1 person needs an answerI do too

do a full av scan as it may be a virus, also do you have a restore point to date before the prob. began.if it started a few weeks ago did you down load and install any progs then?

Did virus scans, nothing detected except tracking cookies. I did a clean boot today and the the delay was still there. I'm kind of new to this but from what I understand the clean boot wiped out any old restore points. I'm sure I have downloaded some programs since the problem started, not sure what though. I think the clean boot was supposed to have eliminated any problems caused by 3rd party software? Thanks for the reply.Guessing someone may suggest I check for driver updates- I can do this through Microsoft Update right? It's not showing any updates from toshiba (for my laptop's keyboard or touchpad) or HP (for my mouse).

Bought PC tune-up 3.0. According to that all drivers are now up to date. Issue not resolved.

Registry cleaning programs are all snake oil. Cleaning of theregistry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone anddon't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, andwhat vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneouslyremoving an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefitit may have. Read http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.htmland http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099and alsohttp://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-windows-fact-of-life.aspxLet me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against theuse of registry cleaners has ever said that they always causeproblems. If they always caused problems, they would disappear fromthe market almost immediately. Many people have used a registrycleaner and never had a problem with it.Rather, the problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with itthe substantial risk of having a problem. And since there is nobenefit to using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very badbargain.Ken Blake (MS MVP)

Guess I'll take your word for it on the registry cleaning although that's just one of the various things it did. Not sure any of them improved my comp's performance. Certainly didn't fix the problem I was trying to use it to fix, which I still need help with :(

Hi, Since the issue was not present in safe mode, it could be some 3rd party programs or services causing the issue. Let’s try in clean boot and check if the issue occurs. If the issue does not occur in clean boot, then disable half the startup items and services and determine whether the problem returns. “How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state” http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 Note: After the troubleshooting, follow the steps under “Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state” to start the computer normally.
