mounted folders disappear in shared folder after navigating to them
Hi all,I'm having an odd problem with mounted folders. We run several machines, all with Win7 64bit, connected via a wired 1GB network. The workstations connect to a data server, also running win7 64bit and connected to the server is a 15 drive storage unit. (has port multipliers so 15 disks are accessible through 3 sata channels)It all works great BUT....... the storage device is mounted as a NTFS folder - goes like this---Y DRIVE------------Data Store 1------------Data Store 2------------Data store 3.....and so on...the issue is when navigating to the Y Drive, all the discs (as folders) are visable, bur say I navigate to store 2 then go back to Y Drive, Store 2 is no longer visable. Happens on all of the Data Store folders. The folders are still accessable by the command line, and if I have the expand tree view set for the left hand pane in folder view then I can see the folders there too but not in Windows explorer.Would love to sort this so others on the network can get to their work :)cheersJ

okay, here's what seems to be happening, for whatever reason when I navigate back to the main folder, the subfolders become 'hidden folders' for a while. Having folder view set to show hidden folders isn't enough though to see them, I also have to have 'Hide protected operating files' turned off to get the folders visable - but then so are all the system files! This is only happening with the mounted data store, not with any other discs or folders. any theories very much appreciated cheers J

Hi, To make the issue clear, May I know the following: 1. Is this computer in a workgroup or a domain? 2. The operating system of the “data server”. 3. What you mean by “mounted folders”, is this equal to “Mapped network drive”? At this time, please also boot the Windows 7 computer to Clean Boot environment and check how it works: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 In addition, please also capture a screenshot on the Windows Explorer when the issue occurs: Capture a screenshot ============== 1) Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2) Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3) In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4) The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5) Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click “Desktop” on the left pane and then click "Save". For your convenience, I have created a workspace for you. You can upload the screenshots via the following link. (Please choose "Send Files to Microsoft") https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=5a76a6b0-e2c9-48ba-a74a-5159ccfbfe13 Password is “MV0pa5rfySH” (without quotations). Thanks. Hi Nicholas, thanks for replying - sorry, I've tried to upload a screenshot but can't access the workspace. I'll answer the questions as best I can. 1) computers are all part of a workgroup, 2)all computers are on Win7, full version, prof 64bit 3) mounted folders - discs that are 'mounted in NTFS folder'.....as in from disc management, I went to add driver letter, and used the 'mount in an empty NTFS folder' - one folder per added disc. I have set a partition on an exisiting drive that then has the drives 'mounted' I have tried a 'clean boot' but cannot access the network - the problem of the folders dissppearing only happens on networked computers, not the local machine (data server) the folders taht disappear can be viewed if set to both show hidden folders and protected files. Aftyer a while the stop being 'hidden folders' and come back into normal viewing. Not sure if this adds anything but when they are normally visable they have the small arrow on the folder icon, when hidden they don't. thanks for helping Cheers Jeff

Has this been resolved? We have the same exact issue. When hardLinking (mounting a partition as a folder within a local drive) on Windows 2008 R2 server the mount points disappear after clicking through them once. We present the local drive mounted as 'D' on the Windows 2008 R2 server as a share - call it "DccStorage". We then mount 3 partitions under this share as DccData1, DccData2, and DccData3. The share appears on our Win7 boxes and you can see the mount points under them just fine the first time you go into the folder. Once you double-click through one of the folders and go back, the mount point disappears. This behavior is not seen on Macs or WinXP machines. You can see them if you uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files' within Folder Options. Is there a regedit to fix this?

Hello All, You may try the following to check if it works: Set the following registry key on the Windows 7 client machine: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters DirectoryCacheLifetime = 0 Does the issue persist after this? Regards, Aamer - MSFT

See the exact same behavior, using Windows 7 as client and Windows 2008 R2 full patched as of today (same as this posting). Windows 7 SP1 fully patched as of this date as well. Behavior is as noted above... Navigate into mount folder below a share on Windows 2008 R2 from Windows 7 client, when navigate back to share, mounted folder disappears for several minutes or more. This issue needs to be fixed. We had to go back to our old Windows 2003 server until this is resolved.
