What driver version are you using. The latest is from Catalyst 9.5, available from http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=win7/windows-7-64bit. You should first install the Display Driver Only. You can play with the rest of the Catalyst suite later if you wish.

Forget it. You won't be able to notice any difference by adjustingjust1 Hz.Provided that it is a TFT monitor you wont even be able to see a difference going to 70+ Hz.If it is an old analog monitor you may get a better image. You mention a display problem (without detailing what it is) If it is some distortion, then you have a hardware problem. If it is just that you would like Windows to report 60 instead of 59 you can forget it. Depending on the hardware it may be a little over or under 60. For instance Windows say 59 in my case too but the Monitor (using its own menu) reports 60.2 Hz.If your monitors OSD menu supports it see what it reports as Refresh rate.

The issue I am having is the screen is flickering and I can't read any dialogue boxes. For instance, not even the screen resolution mode will come up. I've been doing some research and it appears to be a very common problem (seems to be a bug in Windows 7). It's so annoying I am likely going to give up on RC1 unless I can get this fixed - it won't keep my settings too, keeps forcing back to 59.

I hear you. I hate 60 Hz (or 59) on a CRT monitor. You could try an earlier driver. They don't list them for Windows 7, only Vista: Previous Drivers and Software. But they are really the same drivers anyway. Is the driver reverting to the Microsoft provided one? Or is it your customization that isn't being saved? These would point to completely different problems.

I haven't seen anybody report this before. Like I wrote it is probably a hardware issue. Try the monitor on another Computer. If it works correctly there try replacing your graphic card.If the missing dialog you talk about is the one you get by pressing a button on the Monitor then the Monitor certainly is deffective as this is built into the Monitor and will work even while the Monitor isn't connected to the computers graphic card.

I had that with the Beta release where the control panel reported 59Hz but the monitor itself reported 60Hz. Now with the RC, control panel reports 60Hz but also gives the option of changing to 59 Hz strangely enough. EDIT: Just noticed my monitor specs are missing from my sig, Viewsonic VA2213W, 22" true HD (1920x1080) LCD. Windows 7 x64 RC, Asrock K8NF6P, AMD64 3200+, 1.5GB RAM, Palit Geforce 8400GS 256MB, 500GB Maxtor SataII, Asus 1814BLT optical

gbaker123 - can you please send more details of display resolution (XResolution, YResolution, BPP)on which you hit this issue? Also, it would be good if you can your share your email address, I will send you more data and you can also revert with dxdiag of your system. Also, I was looking at the specs of the monitor you are using and it seems it supports 59.94Hz which might be the reason both 59Hz & 60Hz areshowing up.

I seem to get this a multiple resolutions - I am trying 1920 x 1200 which is native for this monitor. Not sure what BPP is? I've downgraded to the 32 bit version of Windows 7 and it seems to be a bit more stable - however I want to run the 64 bit version. You can send me any additional diagnostic information requests to glennwbaker@msn.com Thanks.

gbaker123,There is a new ATI driver dated 6/15... Have you tried those yet?
June 19th, 2009 8:47pm

To update the thread, the original flicker issue is resolved with driver 8.620.0.0. However Glenn is hitting a crash in ATI Catalyst Control, which I am trying to resolve with him offline. Anyone else facing similar issue, please try 8.620 @ http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspxThanksJayant

I thought the 59hz was causing my screen to flicker but it likely was the driver itself. Windows 7 is still showing 59 which I think is a bug but one of the guys from Microsoft pointed out the standard refresh rate on my monitor was 59.<something>, close to 60hz which is why it probably keeps resetting to 59.

Is this industry specs for monitors with native resolution? It is not related with drivers but Winows 7 and Monitors. So 59.94Hz is the reason?

It looks like a driver issue, not only I'm facing this issue, but BSOD as well, when I uninstall the driver my PC runs fine, once installed, BSOD caused by MOM.exe ( ATI component ) the MOM.exe uses .NET framework 1.1, any body faced this BSOD problem ?

Will this issue be fixed so that the games we play read the correct refresh rate?
September 17th, 2009 11:46pm

I don't think that this issure will be fixed. Microsoft find out that 59.9xx is not 60. So it's not a bug, it's a feature. And now all manufacturers of monitors got to patch the drivers by removing the false 60Hz entry. And the monitor-manuels got to be rewritten. Sentences like "The best resolution for your monitor is 1920x1200@60Hz" have to change in "...1920x1200@59Hz" And if you want to play DX-Games @ 60hz, then you have to buy a new monitor. But watch out for the new sticker "Windows 7 60Hz-ready".edit:A workarount to play games wih correct refresh rate is to reduce the desktop-resolution to a resolution witch support 60,xxxHz. Take a look at the datashed in the monitor-manuel, to find out the "right" resolution.
