Hi,It could be a possible corruption in the System Files.1. Run sfc /scannow using Command Prompt, however you might need Windows XP Disc to perform the same.2. Hi,1. Running SFC /SCANNOW using Command Prompt and Start > Run is the same thing, so if you have already run it and is still facing the problem, then proceed to steps below.2. You can also try to un-install all versions of Internet Explorer using Add/Remove Programs, so that your Windows XP comes back with Internet Explorer 6.0 and then you can upgrade again. The process is Un-install Internet Explorer 8.0 > Reboot > Un-install Internet Explorer 7.0 > Reboot. Once done, your Windows XP will use Internet Explorer 6.0 and then you can upgrade again.3. I would now like to rectify my statement that it is not "In-Place Upgrade" it is known as "Repair Installation. However before doing so you would have to make sure that the Service Pack installed on the machine should match with the Service Pack which is on the Windows XP CD. For e.g. if you have Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed on the machine and you have a Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD, then in that case you would have to un-install Service Pack 3.Important Links1.
