microsoft software protection platform service stopped working
Not sure if I should post this here. I have searched the forums for help with this, one came close to answering it and that said to goto a command prompt and enter net start sppsvc. When I hit enter I get The Software Protection service is starting. The Software Protection service could not be started. A system error has occurred. System error 1067 has occurred. The process terminated unexpectedly. Is this terminal or can it be fixed? I am unable to install updates with Windows Update as they just error, I'm guessing this problem has something to do with not updateing. is there a fix or is it a reinstall? Running 64bit win7 pro didn't know if this tit bit would help but there it is Cheers in advance

Hi Check the activation status. Select Start, right click Computer and select Properties. In the Activation section, does it show as being activated? Is System Restore enabled? Open Control Panel/System. In the left side menu select Advanced System Settings.Select the System Protection Tab. In Control Panel, select Administrative Tools/Event Viewer. Expand Custom Views and select Administrative Events.Look for any error events that mention the System Protection Service, sppsvc, or event 1067.If found, double click that event to show the details dialog. Click the Copy Button on the lower/left corner of this dialog and paste the results in a reply here. Let us know what you find. Thank You for using Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP
