microsoft security telephone call
Hi there - I got a phone call tonight from someone purporting to be a microsoft employye. He talked me though checking "application" and "event" errors and warnings from the run command. Both showed errors and warnings. He said that my system was causing problems at his end and needed to connect to my computer to fix it for me. Was a heavily accented guy - difficult to follow. I said no way no how was a complete stranger being given remote access to my pc! There are 3 errors/alerts showing in the files. Do I need to report this to anyone (how did he get my name address and tel # for instance) - and do I need to do anything to clear these files. In case you havent guessed I am not technically savvy! 1 person needs an answerI do too

Read the posting at the top of this group:"I received a phone call/email from someone saying that my computer was infected with a virus"You were apparently looking at your event log. It is normal for a lot of warning and error messages to be posted there. Unless you are experiencing a problem with your computer related to these messages, then these messages can usually be safely ignored.HTH, JW

It was a scam. There's been a lot of this lately. It was good thatyou didn't let him in. In the future, just hang up on callers likethis. Ken Blake (MS MVP)
