microsoft Uk, phoned me
It's likely that it's just a coincidence that your network is having issues. Try turning off the modem and starting it up again. Then browse. If that doesn't fix the issue you should call the Internet Service Provider. There was reports of similar types of unsolicited calls a few months ago. Your father was right to hang up the phone. Run a malware/virus scan on the machine. That should pick up if there is a key logger on the machine. If you have concerns about your security you could reboot Windows. Backup any important files onto an external hard drive, put in your Windows Disc and make sure to pick the format drive option. That will wipe the drive clean and you will start with a fresh drive. If you do go ahead and wipe the machine, you can be sure there's no key logger on the machine. You can then go to your e-mail accounts, facebook account etc. and change the passwords for these to ensure if somebody did actually use a keylogger to get passwords they would not have the one you changed it to after the machine was wiped.PLEASE MARK ANY ANSWERS TO HELP OTHERS Blog: rorymon.com Twitter: @Rorymon

umm okay my father had a phonecall ( it was a withheld number) from a person claiming to be from 'microsoft uk'. The man tryed to sell my father somesort of software because he said that our computer was out of date. We have had calls like these before but this one was different, when my father refused the mans offer the man then procceded to threaten my father, saying and i quote 'if you don't listen to me i will close down your computer perminantly'. after this comment my father hung up the phone but after about 5 minutes the man called back and then procceded to threaten my father further, my father tryed to reason with the man asking him to calm down and explain why he was doing this. the man said that he had our computer on a check and that if he didnt listen to my father he would close down our computer and keylogg all our passwords and stuff. my father hung up and we thought nothing of it untill yesterday when i logged on the computer and i opened windows explorer and had an error ' there is a photo below' this message doesnt come up on all websites but i have noticed that the error message is sort of spreading. for example i went of facebook yesterday and today i now cannot access it. could i have some advice on what to do and i can supply more information on the person if needed, thank you.
