mapping drives to win 7
How can I map a drive on windows 7 pro to be seen and opened on a xp pro machine? I will be using the xp machine and will need to be able to connect to the windows 7 drive to open multiple folders, so I need to be able to look at the hold drive, not one or two folders. I have already mapped the window 7 machine so I can open a look at the drive and all the folders on the xp machine, but cannot be on xp machine and look at the window 7 drive and folders.george1 person got this answerI do too

HiThe security of File Sharing is Not an Internet issue it is set for local Network traffic so that you can decide who is allowed to use what on a Network. If you are the sole user and do not care about the LAN security, then enable the Guest account on all the computers, and set an open Permission/Security for it.I.e., you need to set the Permission/Security even if you want it totally Open. I got it working!!! Thank u Jack your answers did give me some things to think about and try. To make me able to map and be able to see the win7 drive from XP was to put the Xp user name in the share and security of the win7 drive. Which I had to setup a user with that name(of XP computer user) in the win7 machine not the XP machine having the win7 name in user nor did I need it to be an administrator. When I double clicked the map win7 drive on the XP machine it asked for user name and password (which I typed in) and then I checked to remember password. Now when I double click drive it opens and shows me all the folders on the drive. I can open the ones I need to use. Will have to play around with the permmisions in share and security to see what I can leave unchecked( have full access checked right now)on win7 machine.george
