Hello everyone! I have been working with Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bit) for a little bit and cannot sem to get past the fact that I cannot drag and drop my files where i want them to be within the same folder. I am wondering why I cannot organize my files by any means besides by name, date, size, etc. I know there are many people who are upset about this (what I thought to be a no-brainer feature), so I am also wondering why Microsoft decided to deny its customers the control to organize their files the way that they want. I don't want to add my files to a library to somehow get them to organize differently (again, not by name, size, date, etc). I think that this feature alone is making me want to go back to Vista. This is really the only bad experience I have had with Windows 7, so if the good people at Microsoft could make a patch or something that can be downloaded from, say, Windows Update that would allow this feature, I know a lot more people would be happy. So if anyone has any information to give me on this subject, i will be eternally greatflul! thank you all! -hikomarukun

Hi,Thanks for your feedback on Windows 7. I'm sorry to say currently this feature is disabled in Windows 7 by design. But it doesn't mean it will be disabled in the future release version. Dear Microsoft, What gives you the right to dictate how i organize my folders and files? How could you possibly come to the conclusion that customers don't want to control their computer files? I could understand if older operating systems produced by microsoft did not have the feature, but somewhere along the lines you guys made a specific decision to remove this feature. To me this just seems like a petty attempt to annoy and frustrate customers. Even more suprising is how nowhere in the folder options or the offline help center does the system make reference to the change. This led me to continue trying to find a way to enable click and drag organizing for more than three hours. Not even Geek Squad could find out why this feature does not work. As a company you should know better and live up to a higher standard of customer service and support. I had to buy my operating system again after my hard drive failed and I really just feel like I wasted my money on a product that won't even allow me to do something as simple as rearrange files in a folder. Also my system will not allow me to drag a file from one folder to another without having to make a copy. Why would you ever take away a feature that works properly? Makes absolutely no sense to me. If and when someone does respond to this message I would like to know why these features have been removed. What possible gain was there?

Microsoft intentionally removed the option to disable Auto Arrange, but it's still possible with a workaround. See the Auto Arrange links below.
