low battery - laptop loses session
Hello, when I close my laptop, the system goes into energy save mode or whatever it is called now ( I have the german version) which is just fine. But when the battery runs low, it fails to go into hibernate or whatever it is called now. It just switches the computer off and I lose all my work. This is very annoying, it never happened under XP. Is hibernate gone or do I just miss an important thing? /Klaus

start > type "Power options" and hit enter > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Find "Battery" and expand > Critical battery action > On battery and choose Sleep or Hibernate. You'll need to translate yourself if you're on german windows. Also, is this something that happened recently, or has always been happening.

xDirect, thanks for your answer, however, this does not work. I can find that option in Windows XP but in Windows 7 I do not have the option of sleep or hibernate any more. There is only one option "energy save" - and this option may save energy (i haven't tested it) but it definitely does not save my data./Klaus

Klaus:Have you managed to get hibernate to work properly? Does Windows 7 RC work better?-Nick

Nick,no, I just gave up. It did not work in RC, there is just this "energy save" button but it does not hibernate. Every time my battery is empty I loose everything. Very very annoying when you are accustomed to just close the lid and be fine. So for me I won't upgrade to Windows 7 as long as I am able to work with XP./Klaus
