lost printer connection
print server is offline is the message on the client. Clients with Windows 7 drop printer connection to server 2008 R2. This is a random problem with 150 clients in classrooms. There was no problem running Vista. Rebooting the computers restores the connection. it looks like a timeout.

Hi, Thanks for the post! I would like to know what kind of printer you have? What’s the model? Does it compatible with Windows 7? Hi I have a similar problem, but what is more annoying is that my connections has worked for more than two years and suddenly, I get this message on the client "Server is offline" from the print page. My client is Win 7, 64 bits with 4GB of memory. The server is XP with 4 GB of memory and an old HP LaserJet IIIp. I also have a newer HP psc 1217 with an USB port. Same problem. The server has IP-adress 192.168.0.107 and the client is 192.168.0.108. The server is physically linked to a wireless router, and the client is via the wireless network. PING works both ways. Reboots of both ends don't work either. Any ideas why my printer connetctions suddenly stopped working after a 9 weeks holidays? Yours truly, Martin NorwayRealPommy

The server had changed the IP-adress from 192.168.0.107 to 192.168.0.109. Problems solved. Yours truly, RealPommy Norway

We are having the same issues on our network. Random machines are losing their printer connection. The status circle spins and spins, and the user needs to foce close via task manager. Rebooting the machine will re-connect the printers. Printers we have on our network vary from very old to very new, however all printers on the server are identified as Win 7 compatible. All are HP Laserjets, enterprise class. We generally are using the generic HP printing driver. Two users, next door to each other. Both print to the same printer. One gets random disconnects, the other doesn't. This is happening all across our district and is quite frustrating. Any resolutions out there?
