losing my connection to Domain Server
I’m losing my connection to Domain Server. We have a small domain, two Widows 03 servers (one a domain controller), four XP Pro workstations and one Windows 7 workstation. The domain, servers and XP WS have been up and running just fine for several years. The Windows 7 WS for about 8 months. All were fine. All of sudden the Win 7 WS loses connection to the accounting program on the domain server. (I do log into the domain each day). When I go to Windows Explore sometimes it says the server is in use and connect be connected. I ping the server by IP it is fine, however when I ping it by its name I get a reply from an IP that is on a external out on the Internet. I DO NOT have this problem from ANY of the XP WS! On an XP machine I can ping the server by name just fine and the accounting program works fine.

Hi, Try clearing the Hosts file and DNS cache. Step 1: Clear the Hosts file -------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start Button, type "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. Right-click on the file "Hosts" (without quotations) and choose Delete. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. Step 2: Clean up the Domain Name Resolution (DNS) cache -------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. In the popup window, type: "ipconfig /flushdns" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. Best Regards Dale

The flush did not help. I still have the problem. Still when I ping the server name I receive a relpy from an outside internet IP a 69.XXX.XXX.XXX number when out external IP is a 72.xxx.xxx.xxx number. actually I expected a reply from our internal IP a 10.xxx.xxx.xxx.

Your problem is similar as the following page describes. Do you install any third party providor on your computer? A domain name is resolved to an incorrect IP address when a third-party name service provider is installed on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer Best Regards Dale
