long period of use, multiple windows open, then crash
Hello all i got windows 7 pro installed, on a brand new HP z600 workstation, with 6 gb memory 500 gb HDD with a xeon CPU with a 2 high end grafic card. After 2-3 days of usage and having multiple screens high memory usage apps running, still having 2gb memory avialable, right after i open another tab in IE everything crashes screen goes crazy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGL24kwJiFY After i start killing some apps by alt+f4 or the "x" i can see, the system comes back to some what working state. This happened to me multiple times and i cant identify whats causing this. I checked event viewer besides the app crash messages, main cause really not what it says, ( i can post the errors here if it would be helpfull) and after I did the standart memory test went fine, i will do the extended overnight, I cannot figure out why this is happenning. Never had this problem in XP before. Any suggestions what might be the issue?

hmm besides cleanboot i've done all of suggestions. Memory test went fine, and windows is update to date. Doing clean boot isnt an option since this only happens after long periods of time which i cant do on clean boot. How can i identify the cause of the issue?

Hi, The issue could be related to third party applications confliction. What applications are you running at the same time? Sometimes, several applications will open the process which is associated to the same service or dll files. It will cause into crash. The issue also can be related to graphic card or memory doesn't work properly. You can refer to the following methods to narrow down the issue. 1. Updating the software to the latest version. 2. Updating the BIOS and all devices' drivers from the manufacture's site. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3718664&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=3718663&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4053 Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Hi, Does the issue occurs frequently? The issue occurred after opening IE Tab. What is the site you are surfing? After performing previous suggestions, does the issue occur again? Based on the current situation, I suggest running IE with no add-ons to check the result. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons) Best Regards, NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Ty for your response, Ie is just an example. This can happen when i open any other app to a point everything goes nuts. But its a really rare thing, maybe once or twice in 3 months period but causes a loss of time and code. Usually happen when i have to many studio projects, couple ssms windows open feels like when i consume a lot of resources. Its hard to duplicate and i cant pinpoint when and what im doing is causing it.

What high-end graphics card? Most of them have buggy drivers, and driver faults could explain what you're seeing. It's almost universally a good idea to go to the web site of the maker of the video card (e.g., nVidia.com, ati.com, intel.com) and download the latest drivers for your card. One exception: There are some problems with the current ATI drivers (Catalyst 11.3) that break Photoshop. Use Catalyst 11.2. -Noel

Hello, I got 2 nvidia quadro 2000, which was on 2/14/2011 v. 8.17.12.6710. I found a newer version drivers which is few months in difference. I'll give these a try for next few weeks, see what happens. Odd there isnt a log item that pin points the issue. O well, Thanks for the help.

Hello, this happened again, I was away for a week and had left my computer in locked mode. While i was away i got 2 3 more screens opened (popups like calendar messenger windows). When i got back in front of my machine i had out of memory errors and almost all my apps were crashing. I did some more research and found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246. Its mentioning about desktop heap. I ran the fix it program.
