login to network very, very slow
How do I troubleshoot a Vista PC that takes forever to logon to my windows server 2008 R2 hosted network? A windows 7 PC on the same network logs in without any problem. The Vista PC takes about 3 minutes from the time I enter the network account
and password and the time the desktop finally appears. ( all the equipment is in the same room. there is nothing fancy in the router side of things. )
When I login to the Vista PC with a local user account, there is no delay. But then it takes a few minutes immediately after login for the IE browser to startup after I click the IE icon.
I know about the process monitor suite of tools from Mark Russinovich. Are there any other tools I can use to find out what is taking so long?
thanks,

Could be a lot of things. What anti-virus software are you using? Have you scanned the hard drive for errors?
See if this helps:

ok, thanks. I did scan for viruses using a free MSFT tool. I suppose I have to work with process monitor and go step by step thru the Mark Russinovich article on diagnosing a slow login.
