If you formated / clean installed winxp, did you also install drivers from HP site for your model, or did you rely on MSUpdate for drivers, a v.bad idea.

Your computer is definitely infected with malware.(1) Backup all data(2) Do not format drive with any other program, or else you may never be able to install Windows again.(3) make sure you have SYSTEM REINSTALLATION discs (CD\DVD). If you do not have these disks, AND you never created when you purchased, go to Compaq\HP website.http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=115&prodSeriesId=471752&prodTypeId=321957&objectID=c00395449(4) Note that there is BIOS update available. Find out how to flash BIOS. Compaq\HP has excellent record on updating BIOS.If you install SP3 and post-SP3 updates, your computer will be not very useful, except converting to likes of NETBOOKS. You need at least 3GB RAM to make post-SP3 work smoothly.

You cannot backup drivers, unless you mean you saved the HP installation files to external media."If you install SP3 and post-SP3 updates, your computer will be not very useful, except converting to likes of NETBOOKS. You need at least 3GB RAM to make post-SP3 work smoothly."Complete nonsense

Have you run XP on Celeron-based computer? Yes, it runs, but you would not realize that when you pile on crapwares its performance inaverage users hand in abominably slow. I am not going to take account that experts can make unnecessary services shutdown, do several tweaks to make it perform tad faster. But majority of people, XP/post-SP3 is at best non-productive way to use computer. Most people don't realize how much a 70-80 dollar additional cost into non-celeron PC can have on their productivity. And that is a real truth.
