I'll take a shot at this - when you reconnect the PS do you have to restart or does the screen turn on instantly?

I have the exact same problem as original poster - on the same hardware Dell LatitudeD610. Upon restoring power supply, video returns to normal. I do not need to restart the computer. Video washes out, seems to go to 16 colors, then after power restoration, video returns to normal color palette and overall normal. Very weird behavior.

Both of you may need to update your drivers. The microsoft drivers may not be compatible with your model. If wndows 7 drivers for your hardware are availible they can be obtainedfrom the DELL website.

There is no windows 7 or vista driver for a dell 610 on the dell web site..:-(

If you can find out more about the hardware of your computer such asyour chipset manufacturer you may obtain drivers from those manufacturers. Since your computer is close to 5 years old you may want to run the windows 7 upgrade adviser for a compatibility report. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx

It works fine on mains power only fails on battery that is the frustration
August 20th, 2009 12:32pm

Hi johno62, I suspect the issue is related to your battery, you may need to replace it with a new one. Does this issue occur with the previous Operating System? Please run powercfg utility to output the power report and see any errors list, the steps are as follows: Note: it is recommended to analysis the power usage at least 10 after restarting Operating System without any application open. 1. Click the Start button and type: cmd. 2. Right click cmd.exe running as administrator. 3. Type: powercfg -energy 4. Type: energy-report.html to open the report. You can the Battery Information section of the report and compare the Design Capacity and Last Full Charge. When the Last Full Charge value is significantly lower than the design capacity of the battery, you should consider replacement. Best Regards. Dale Qiao

At the intell web site they have a chipst identifier program. Also in device manager click on display adaptors to see what you have or type msinfo32.exe.

Extract the HP driver with winrar or 7zip.You can also get that driver from intell but only for xp. The hewlett packard driver is probably the same for xp and vista.

Because they don't make a driver for your computer. You can try to insall it by going to control panel, devices and printers and select the"Add a device" tab and hope that works. If your persistant there are other methods to install it.TheWindows 7 Upgrade advisor will probably say this computer is incompatible but it really should be because it has a good processor.
