kb info link after Windows Update rerouted to weird site
just went through a couple of updates on W7/64 and after rebooting and reviewing what was installed, I just clicked on a link related to kb2505438, so hxxp://support.micrososft.com/kb/2505438 and I got rerouted, in Google Chrome to hxxp://hus.parkingspa.com/hc3.asp same in Internet Explorer, same in Firefox. In Firefox I noticed that for the page to be displayed, I had to allow a script called... note the spelling... "micrososft.com" . edit: I should have mentioned, when clicking on the legit MS link, there's very briefly a "page not found" message and then the bad site.

actually there's no rerouting, the bad link comes directly from Windows Update, see screen shot here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=73278.0;attach=60840;image

I got same. Must be a miss-spelling in the Windows Update. This really gave me a hiccup, thought my computer somehow got infected! When I saw I was not the only one (through this forum) it made me relax a bit. I hope MS can fix this before that web-page (same as OP reported) manage to make some kind of hack to infect your computer by just visiting it. Regards

I could almost swear that exactly the same issue already happened once. I probably reported it using anoher live account 'cause I can't find it in my threads here.

doesn't seem like everyone has the bad link on his system (I mean just WinUpdate interface). Someone posted on another forum showing a screenshot from the same typed properly.

Microsoft appear to have fixed the bad link now in windows update. It now directs to correct page lol :0 SORTED
March 8th, 2011 4:48pm

well not here... you mean you got the bad link in Windows Update and it directs you now to the good one? ... because I doubt the info panel in Wndows Update can be updated... I'll just remove the KB and re-install it. This should hopefully get me rid of that lol :)

computer froze while uninstalling the update... anyway it got uninstalled when rebooting, and anyway this was completely useless as of course the bad link will remain associated with the first update in Windows Update history...
March 8th, 2011 5:44pm

the update is ok. You can install it: Slow performance in applications that use the DirectWrite API on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2505438"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? the post above that's been marked as an answer is completely off topic in this thread.
March 26th, 2011 4:36pm

why? I gave you the correct link. The wrong link was corrected 1 day later. What's your point? "A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Check my HowTo: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=150221

I never started that thread to request any link... I obviously knew what the update was about and how to get to the right page ...and I never questioned the validity of the update itself btw :) >>> I started that thread to mention a regrettable typo in the the kbinfo, nothing else. Seemed obvious to every one else in this thread.

it was fixed 1 day later. What's the point to come back 2 weeks later and start a useless discussion?"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Check my HowTo: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=150221
