Windows defender and Microsoft Security essentials are basically the same thing.  In win 8 it is called defender and you cannot use MSE in win 8.

You don't need to remove defender, if you want to use something else (other than MSE) all you have to do is install the other one and defender will be dis

Zigzag has provided you with the correct advice.

I suggest you leave & use the inbuilt Defender, at least initially.

Do not just rely on Defender. Example you visit a website that has a malicious code. Example. search.condunit,.com. Defender cannot recognize the web Trojan like this. To keep you safe of these bugs, I'd suggest using host file by mvp and only use that host file. Or use malwarebytes or your fav malware defender. If you do use a second plan, make sure you disable defender when doing a scan or setup, enable defender after the scan. Also after the scan is complete do not allow your second plan to run at startup and disable any automatic updates of your second plan.

thanks,

I read your advise FAQ,

what I understand if I use third party software and even if I disable it ,it wil still have some components active and wil cause some problems with WD ,

but now my quetsion is if I disable WD and use third party software wil also some components of WD  cause some problems for third party antivitrus?

2--my second question is ,is WD anti virus is powerfull as Norton,Kapersky ect.

3- is it usefull to use Ccleanre to remove some startup keys, or it is a bad idea?

I can only speak for malwarebytes and avast.

My second computer runs avast with defender turned off. There are no issues.

My computer runs WD with malwarebytes turned off.

I scan manually with malwarebytes every day.

We have no issues.

Defender is not as good as Norton or Kaspersky and others.

I can test to this myself, I was reciently infected, defender did not even know I was infected. I suspected something. So I went to my trustfull malwarebytes to remove it. I also helped a person seeking advice here, I suggested to run malwarebytes he found a virus which defender did not even know it was there.

I do not like Norton at all with its resource hogging security. Avast and malwarebytes work with no issues

A few years ago test were done with this, there was lots of flask about that.

Defender was ranked at the bottom, surprisingly Norton did not do as good as the others. Norton caused a huge uproar about it. After Norton said ok we will improve those things.

I rest my case. EDIT: These bugs were intentional bugs. I used for testing reliability of WD. WD failed that test horribly. So you tell me what do you trust when typing in your next password

I'm posting again, so readers can understand the facts behind the reliability of Microsoft security software vs others. In my results just in 3 virus and 2 malware Microsoft did not measure up to the detection level. These were in real time. installed the bugs with defender running. executed the bug and rebooted. I then did the same process with malwarebytes running and they noticed a bug in the system and removed all. I then installed the bugs again with malwarebytes running, bugs were Q'ed right off the  bat.

No offence meant to Microsoft development, you do good work and programming but your security software in not as good as others.
