internet problem: browsers show only blank page
hi everybody, this is my first post. im still strying to get an idea of forum layout so i apologize if my post ended up in wrong section.here is the description of my problem that im occasionally having and cant find the solution.everyonce in a while something crashes my internet connection. when i open firefox only blaknk page gets displayed and status says: done. none of websites work. when im closing the program it freezes and there is a message saying "program has stopped wroking and will close".the same happens with opera - remote server could not be resolved and the same thing happnes when i close it.thunderbird tires to connect to email server but fails and also the same message shows up when i close iti wanted to install spybot. install file gets donwloaded from the internet but again it says: connection to the server fialed.microsoft genuine check gives me an error message everytime i want to obtain genuine code saying - code could not be obtained because of connection problem.in word and excel: when i try to download templets it says connection failed.when i tried to uninstall and reinstall FF, TB and O but i got the same problem. some people of different forums said it's DNS problem. i tried ipconfig / flushdns but still the same problems remianed. the strange things is that internet explorer works with no problems. web sites load up quickly and program is not freezing while closing.it is very annoying because i have to constantly keep on restoring my system to be able to use all applications. I also found out that other software crashes when i close it - itunes, WMP, some of the games, winamp, adobe photoshop and illustrator.pretty much everything that uses internet fails (automatic updates, or stuff) i only use NOD32 antivirus program which is very good. my firewall is tunred off. UAC is off. i would realy appreciate help in this matter.

Hi, Thank you for the post. I understand the inconvenience you are experiencing. From your description, I infer that DNS and network connectivity should work properly since IE can browse websites successfully. As the issues only occur in third party products such as Firefox, I suggest contacting the product manufacturers to confirm if the product/version is fully compatible with Windows Vista. They are better equipped to assist you. In addition, Ive included the following KB article for your reference: Advanced methods to troubleshoot a program that does not run as expected after it is installed on Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931362/ Hope it helps. P.S.: In order to avoid confusion and keep track of the troubleshooting steps, we usually focus on one issue per thread. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Hi, Sorry if anything unclear in my previous post. Yes, all the examples listed are Internet-related. However, as many products are involved and we do not have evidence at this time to confirm these symptoms are related by the same root cause, we suggest focusing on one specific issue at one time. In this case, shall we focus on the download failure of Word and Excel template? If all the symptoms are caused by the same factor, other symptoms will be fixed after we resolve this failure. Thank you for your understanding. Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following points with you: How does this environment access the Internet? Is it using dial-up connection? Is IE still working without any problem there? What template did you try to download? Have you tried to download it from the Office Online website http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/FX100595491033.aspx?pid=CL100632981033? How does it work? Meanwhile, I suggest temporarily uninstalling the antivirus and turning off all firewall on the computer and router to narrow down the issue. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support
