internet connection sharing problem with PS3
I have a desktop running with windows xp and a laptop with windows vista and built in wireless. i have recently purchased a usb modem through cricket wireless and am trying to share the internet connection with my playstation 3. I've been told it's very simple to do by enabling internet connection sharing in network properties. I've tried this on both computers, but still no success. i've also tried both an ethernet connection and a wireless connection but the playstation still cannot connect. i've checked some other websites and watched youtube videos and they all show it works, and I've tried manually putting the IP information into the PS3's network settings. any help is greatly appreciated. I've asked Sony and they replied saying they currently don't have any information on this issue. thank you!2 people need an answerI do too

You might have to connect the Playstation to the Windows computer using a crossover Ethernet cable rather than a regular Ethernet cable. Configure the Playstation to obtain an IP address automatically. To set up Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with the USB modem, right-click the Internet connection and click Properties > Advanced . If it asks you to choose a home network connection, choose the Local Area Connection.Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

I just tried a crossover cable and still nothing, i've also tried setting up my laptop as an ad-hoc network but the playstation cant find it, even if i enter it manually. so far the best result I've gotten is that my playstation obtained the ip address but still could not connect, i think it was a problem with the dns timing out. what i did to get that result was used two cat6 ethernet cords and a wireless router. i plugged my laptop and playstation in ports 1 and 2 and left the internet port empty. even though i was still unsuccessful, I did manage to get an IP address. any other ideas? once again thank you very much for your help.

You have not mention you scenario how did you connected the whole system ( this will let us help you better)Check if you able to ping your whole network For egScenario _IYour Laptop (Wireless) and desktop (UTP) is connected to Router and Playstation to Desktop (UTP) nothing to do with laptop Enable Internet sharing for only one computer in which you have direct inter net connection (Desktop here)Install IPX/XPS/Net bios strictly only for Network card sharing Internet Connection Only. (not for both network cards only connected to Play Station) from Network card\Properties\InstallRemove Ip from Play station/ Assign AutomaticallyScenario IILaptop to Router, desktop to Router, Playstation to Routerjust configure your router for multi login(where you dont need pc to log into internet)Enable Router DHCP for LAN Remove Ip from Play station/ Assign AutomaticallyBest of LuckSohail Khan
