I notice you're running a router, has you try connecting through the cable modem for the time being instead of using with the router and see how it goes? The problem could be due to the router or some configuration. Lastly are you running any file sharing application like peer to peer?

Your computer's hardware configuration is probably not a factor in this issue. These are some of the things you should check on: 1) contact your ISP and make sure the disconnects are not their fault, or wiring problems from them to your house. 2) Check your cable modem & router. Anything in the logs, lights flashing red while disconnected? 3) Have you installed the latest drivers for your network card? Check the vendor's web site. 4) Take a look at the computer's local event logs. See if there are any errors generated near the time of the disconnects. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hello Ljoh, My suggestions are as follow: 1. Install an AV like Security Esseantials and an Anti Malware like Malwarebytes AM, run them both to make sure that there is not malware on your system consuming idle bandwidth and leaving you very little baddwidth for your downloads as well as owerwhelming your router. 2. Try to connect your PC directly to the ISP's modem as Daniel mentioned (enable the firewall first) and see if the same problem occurs directly connected to the ISP modem. 3. When you get the 'hiccups' ping a local address. If the local address responds but a WAN address does not, then you have ruled out a problem with the NIC card or switch.
