internet connection
Hello I am having issues with my internet connection that keeps switching off . I have tried the following but still I havent found any resolution. Hence I require your help I have tried to ipconfig /flushdns and register but it doesnt help I have manually entered the dns server instead of automatic. I changed this in the network adapter setting. Should I change it also in the router ?? Even I have change the dns server to google public dns server Despite all this, I still keep getting issues with the internet connection and when I run the network trouble shoot, the message I get is dns server not responding, issue with the access point .. etc Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. A couple of factors comes into play when a laptop internet connection keep disconnect randomly. One of the factors that comes to mind, is the wireless signal strong (you could alway monitor it by the signal bar at the lower right hand corner at the taskbar) Also has you try changing the wireless channel through the router itself? And is there any third party firewall like ZA or Norton on the laptop itself? The other thing i want you to do is to take a look at device manager>wireless network adapters. Is there two wireless network adapter under device manager or any exclamation? Lastly you're using windows wireless utility or asus wireless utility to connect? There is no issue with the wireless signal as it is strong. I even tried in LAN connections, but still the problem is there I do use zone alarm firewall. This problem only started a few weeks back. Prior it was all fine Under the device manger, there is three network adapters shown atheros wireless Microsoft virtual mini port Realtek PCI GBE family controller (LAN) I have disabled the microsoft virtual mini port in the network adapter setting. SHould I delete it I am using window wireless utility for the troubleshooting and settings

I assume you are only running windows wireless utility & not asus wireless utility to connect to the net since you mention is only windows utility & don't use both utility at the same time as it might cause conflict I suggest you to uninstall ZA firewall for the time being and next reboot your laptop, next try connecting again using wireless. If it work fine, i suggest you to use windows firewall would do (I suspect the disconnection has to do with ZA since you mention be it using lan or wireless, you too face similar disconnect issue. And based on my past experience, ZA indeed does create some issue for user when connecting to the net) Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. The winsock refers to a set of registry entries. They are at: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2] basically it resets these back to default if it got curropted at all from an install or malware. I'd say try it, if you are worried about losing anything. export these keys before doing the reset so you can import them if something goes wrong.

I reset the winsocks but it has not helped. One thing i noticed is that when were I have connection issues, the internet LED on the router doesnt flash . Is the problem with router ?? How do I check that

do you have a router and a modem? Try plugging directly into the back of the modem and just take the router out of the loop and see if you still have connection issues
