installing network computer by the local computer selection
I have been trying to install an HP Color Laserjet 2600n printer in windows 7.
I can't get it to work right. I go to install the IP port and it queries the address and does not find the computer. I then select the closest driver from the list and it does not print the test page.
I was able to install on one windows 7 machine and it successfully queries, but could not succeed with a second windows 7 machine.
suggestions?

Hi,
First, I would appreciate your help in clarifying the following:
1.
Is this a domain network?
2.
The topology of the network. If the computer is connecting to a router, please bypass it and connect to the network directly for a test.
Please open the
Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to run the automated troubleshooting services.
1. Click
Start, Control Panel
2. In the Control Panel, click
System and Security
3. In the System and Security window, under Action Center, click
Troubleshoot common computer problems
4. In the Troubleshoot computer problems window, click
Hardware and Sound and select
Printer to automatically diagnose and fix a problem.
Please update the chipset (motherboard) and bios to test.
After that, please remove and reinstall the printer to test this issue:
remove the printer in “Devices and Printers”:
===================================
1. Open Devices and Printers by clicking the
Start button, and then, on the Start menu, clicking
Devices and Printers.
2. Right-click the printer that you want to remove, click
Remove device, and then click Yes.
If you can't delete the printer, right-click it again, click
Run as administrator, click Remove device, and then click
Yes. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
And then, you can download the driver for Windows 7 from the
HP site.
If the above steps do not resolve the problem, please
try the following on the Windows 7 computer.
Note: this step is just for Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate edition.
1. Click the Start Button, type "gpedit.msc" (without quotation marks) and click OK.
2. In the "Group Policy" window, double click on "Windows Settings" under "Computer Configuration".
3. Double click on "Security Settings"-> "Local Policies"-> "Security Options"
4. In the right panel, double click on the "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level", please select
"Send LM & NTLM Responses".
5. Click Apply and OK.
