install win 7 remote administration upgrade failure
I am attempting to load KB958830 the windows 7 remote administrative tools. It fails each time and the error is: Log Name: Setup Source: Microsoft-Windows-WUSA Date: 7/7/2010 9:20:05 PM Event ID: 3 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: User: CRCS\jim Computer: COMPUTERTEACHER.crcs.org Description: Windows update "Update for Windows (KB958830)" could not be installed because of error 2147943737 "The security ID structure is invalid." I found an old blog / forum that suggested certain registry changes: the file is: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate\DisableWindowsUpdateAccess] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU] "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000 "AUOptions"=dword:00000000 [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoDevMgrUpdate"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "NoUpdateCheck"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate] "DisableWindowsUpdateAccess"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000000 It did not work -- does anyone have any suggestions? I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my workstation as a clean install (I had been using RC1). After installing a number of programs I noticed I was getting installation issues. When I went to check the device manager, I get the "class not registered" error, which seems to be with every mmc.exe, since I cannot open mmc.exe from the run line or cmd prompt.I suppose I could reinstall Windows 7, but that seems tiresome. Is there any way to re-register MMC.exe? I looked around and found one solution for XP, but that is probably not going to work in x64.

Hi, I would like to suggest you enable and log into the built-in administrator, then try to install the Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 in Clean Boot. To enable the built-in administrator account, please perform the following steps: 1. Click the Start button, All Programs, Accessories. 2. Right click Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator". 3. Click Continue when the User Account Control window appears. 4. Type the following command and press Enter: net user administrator /active:yes Please note, we can replace “yes” with “no” to disable the built-in administrator account in future. Then you will get the prompt that The command completed successfully. Can it be installed? Regards, Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
