incorrect IP address from DHCP
I have a guy with a Windows 7 laptop. It connects to the office LAN with the wireless connection without any issues. When he takes it home, he doesn't have any network connectivity while other computers do. His laptops' IP configurations obtained from the Dlink wireless access point/router are: IPv4 address 192.168.1.24 (note this is 192.168.ONE.24) Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (note this is 192.168.zero.1) DNS: 192.168.0.1 Other computers have an IP addresses on the 192.168.1.x subnet. Running IPConfig /renew gets the sames results. The guy mentioned he had the same problem when he visited a hotel. All other guests were doing fine but he couldn't connect to the internet. Is there any known cause for this? What can be done to resolve this issue? The Computer Shogun

With the configuration listed above, his default gateway is incorrect for the IP address/subnet mask combination. Either his DHCP server has an incorrect scope configuration (although you stated that the other computers are fine so this is unlikely) or there are some hard coded settings in the TCP/IP properties. Open the control panel and go to the network connections, properties of the NIC in question, IP properties. Verify that all settings are DHCP enabled. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.
