ie8 - open links in new tab
new install of Windows 7 - only add-on that was installed (issue happened prior to this add-on) was adobe - i disabled that.i want IE to open links in a new tab from either IE or another program - this does not work.i obviously went to tool-ie options and canged the necessary options in the tabbed browsing section. then i reset and tried nothing.i registered a few DLL's per other sites suggestions - still have issue. no probem viewing or displaying webpages. if i do go into run IE8 with no addon's the problem does not exist - in "normal" mode - i have all add-ons disabled - which is only adobe and the problem existed prior to reader install.

Your last sentence confuses me still. You said you go into IE8 with no addon's and it works as it should - correct? Then you said you go into it normally but you have all addon's disabled and the problem returns. So the only difference is adobe right? Then have you uninstalled adobe reader, rebooted and then reinstalled? and then what?MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. I stated above - this issue happened prior to the Adobe install. i was just putting a note that that's the only add-on on the PC

i'm assuming it's a registry entry that needs to be modified - or possible a dll that needs reregistering.

What about my last sentence? Have you done that yet. Uninstalled adobe - reboot and retest IE8. If that's good, reinstall abode reader and retest again.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. You may need to make the following change: “Tools”->”Internet Options”->Click “Settings” under “Tabs”->Choose “Always open pop-ups in a new tab” If the issue persists, please let us know if it occurs when you open every websites or just with individual websites. This issue can also be caused by code design issues on the website server side.Arthur Xie - MSFT

i had the same exact issue as geekpatrol had. exact situation too. no add-ons. popups worked as configured when running with no add on's but when running normal it doesn't work. I did adobe as he did, but that was after the issue was already noticed and I just moved on - although i've done numerous win7 installs since then and haven't had the issue - but it does exist. Arthur - the first thing anyone would do would change the tab settings - give us a little credit here... has to be a reg. hack for sure i'm assuming - I didn't feel like wasting my time on it so i just left it as it wasn't my pc but bust out process mon. see if it's having a permission issue on a reg entry
