icacls command
Hello, I was getting access deined viewing the cbs.log file in windows 7. i know you can view it using an elevated cmd prompt. So i tried the icacls command and it worked without using the elevated cmd prompt.(i think?) Does taking ownership of a file allow a user to modify it whatever it's status was? I understand the icacls command is quick way of modifying file permissions Are there any good articles explaining windows 7 permissions in depth. Help appreciated.

Hi, First, I would like to confirm what do you mean about the file status. Actually, you can use the icacls command to modify the user permissions. However, if the file is running in background, running by certain user or the file is read only, it may also encounter some problem to get permissions to modify it. At this stage, I would like to share you the core Security component about Windows Vista and Windows 7: User Account Control. For more information, please refer to the link below: UAC Thanks, Novak
