i have an older pc is there anything i can do to stop it from making so much noise

It depends on what component is making the noise. Unplug the computer and remove the case. I usually take it outside for this but I live in California. If you're in the middle of a Minnesota snowstorm this isn't going to work for you. ;-) Blow out the inside using canned compressed air. When the computer inside is clean, take it back inside and turn it on, leaving the case off/open. Observe the fans and try and pinpoint where the noise is coming from. If it is a fan (which it probably is), you can replace the fan. If it is your hard drive making clicks, grinding noises, etc. then back up your data because your drive may be failing soon. Hard drives are fairly cheap to replace but whether you want to put any money or effort into an elderly machine really depends on how old it is, what components are troubled, and your situation.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
