i have alot of unneeded space that i have no idea about !!!
am using an acer laptop ( aspire ) windows 7 with 500 G.b hard the hard is not divided , it's only C and am really organized there is is one folder called gus where i put every thing dvided into folders inside it the rest of the laptop is empty that folder is almost 70 G.b , but the used space in my hard is about 156 G.b knowing that i don't have any games and i have 2 CAD programs and adobe pro extend which are about 5 G.b is it possible that the standard programs take that much space ? i've only seen that problem in windows 7

Gus, I could go thru the standard advice of running Disk Cleanup, decreasing the amount of space used for System Restore Points, turning off hibernate if you don't use it, BUT I suspect you are really after an easy way of determining what is using how much space Microsoft doesn't provide an easy and/or graphical way to do what you would like which is why I use WinDirStat , http://windirstat.info/index.php

To check the size of Program folders - open Windows Explorer, navigate to the Program Files folder, right click on the folders and select Properties. It will show the total size of the folder. You may have restore points taking up space, see below to reduce them Free Up Space - Increase Hard Drive Space The following procedure cleans up files associated with your user account. You can also use Disk Cleanup to clean up all the files on your computer. 1. Click the Start button, in the search box, type Disk Cleanup, then click Disk Cleanup. 2. In the Drives list, click the hard disk drive that you want to clean up, and then click OK. 3. On the Disk Cleanup tab, select the file types you want to delete. Note: To Remove all System Restore Points Except the Most Recent - Click "Clean up System Files" and you will get another tab called More Options. Now click More Options, then click "Clean up" under "System Restore and Shadow Copies" then confirm the deletion. 4. Click OK on the bottom of the Disk Cleanup window and in the message that appears, click Delete files. Reduce the amount of space allocated for System Restore. 1. Start-->Control Panel-->System and Security-->System 2. Next click on the 'System protection' link located in the upper left. 3. In the 'System Properties' window click on the 'System Protection' tab. 4. Locate the 'Protection Settings' box and select/click on the drive letter (usually C:) 5.
