i give up
running win 7 home premium a virus slipped through mcaffee - it was the win 7 security 2011 one, I stuffed around here and there doing 'old' things to manually remove the virus, by old, i mean based on the understanding of virus removal i have from running windows 98 for years, which led me to tampering with user account security settings, processes ect, i got the virus to stop running by accessing the task mgr and denying it. unfortunatly when I have done this, it has stopped the virus from running but somewhere it has also corrupted my UAC settings and now i cannot access heaps of stuff, including UAC's i can't download anti spywear/virus programs, can't re-install mcafee (tryed to re install when virus was running and it wiped it off my computer, now i do not have permission to install new programs) i cannot reboot, my computer has a recovery partition in the hard disk, but i cannot get this to work, either through system recovery or microsoft restore - the virus wiped all my restore points, and i have no disks. In safe mode ect- i can open programs by right click run as administrator, but i still do not have permissions.... question is - how can i override 'permissions' so that I can reset all my UAC's and fix my registry, get rid of this virus, and get my computer back to normal.

Shut down the computer-turn on the computer and press F8 after the BIOS but before Windows 7 starts. Hold it down. Be patient until you get it and wait, the screen may be dark for a little while, 15 -30 seconds Repair option-like safe mode will appear-select system restore choose a restore point prior to the malware infection-pick one on after the recent Windows update point and prior to the bad stuff. With no Complete PC backup or file and setting backups your are most likely going to lose the data. The comp mfg's don't impress on new owner's to create a repair disk and or re-installation disk enough. Try borrowing a home premium disk from someone, and boot to it and try the repair options to determine if your restore points are actually gone. Your user files are still there, so don't delete anything from the hard drive just yet. Post a reply when you can.
