i cant add an email account to my surface RT

Hi i have a new surface RT and managed to set up my Hotmail account without any issues, i now need to set up my work emails on the device but I'm experiencing issues, the emails we use is a POP3 account which i know isnt support so i checked with the email provider and they have given me info for setting them up as an IMAP, I've tried this and each time i get a message telling me that to use this particular account i need to set up a digital certificate on the device, however reading through the forum's here it appears that a digital certificate is used on an exchange server which i dont have? As you can tell I'm not technical so can anybody tell me how to set up my accounts please, i leave the UK in a couple of days time and desperately need to get this sorted.
