Has Stand By ever worked? What happens when you try to initiate Stand By?What is your system make and model? What is your XP Version and Service Pack?Describe your current antivirus and anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc. What do you see that you don't think you should be seeing? What do you not see that you think you should be seeing?Fill in the blank: My system was working fine until: ____________________________________________.Is the Stand By button missing or grayed out (unavailable)? From the Turn Off Computer option, if you press the Shift key, does the Stand By button turn into a Hibernate button? Please provide additional information about your system:Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. For video driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information. This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork.Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it. That looks pretty good except parts of it are cut off for some reason... GATEWA instead of GATEWAY? Never seen that before! For these kinds of Stand By and Hibernate issues, I am inclined to start thinking about video drivers. You did not provide that requested information about your video drivers or the way your Stand By button behaves right now.If you did a System Recovery from CDs that came with your system, the drivers on the Recovery CD may be outdated, or you may have updated your system sometime in the past - that is why it used to work.I would go to the eMachines Wide Wide World of Web page and see if you have the latest video drivers and update your system if needed:http://www.emachines.com/support/drivers.htmlLooks like you need VGA driver version 6.14.10.3889.You can find your current version following the previous instructions. In the meantime, since you think your system had some type of infection, I would also recommend you do this:Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/They can be uninstalled later if desired. When the scans run clean, then troubleshoot any remaining issues.Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it.
