iMac can't view/logon to Windows 7
My sons home network includes an iMac that is viewable and fully accessible from the Win 7 64 bit desktop. To do this we had to go into the Windows 7 registry and edit the: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa. Changed the key> LmCompatibilityLevel from 3 to 1. However, establishing a view of the network from the iMac side, is still a problem.Only shows my sons Windows 7 desktop computer name Josiah-PC. We gave sharing privileges to thevarious folders on the Win 7 desktop. But, any attempt to browse what is on his Win 7 local desktop from the iMac prompts for user name, password and returns with incorrect password.Anyone have a work around for getting an iMac to actually see with read permissions a Win 7 desktop?Would be most appreciated. Hi Frank, From the symptom we could find that this is an authentication issue. Does the issue occur when you access the Windows 7 beta computer from other Windows computers? If it occurs with all computers, I suggest that you enter Network and sharing center->Change the Advanced sharing settings, enable all of the options. However, if the issue only occurs with the iMac, please make sure that the user name and password you enter is from an available user account on the Windows 7 beta computer. If the authentication still does not work, maybe you need to adjust some settings in iMac system, or the authentication of apple conflict with Windows 7 beta. I suggest that you also discuss in Apple forum, it may be a better resource. Discuss iMac Hope it helps. Arthur Xie - MSFT
