how to share a drive or partition with the home group????
Does anyone know the correct proceedure for doing just that. The problem is that I have multiple computers running Windows 7 on a home group and the only thing I have successfully been able to share is the Public folders only. There is multiple programs on one of the partitions of this computer that if possible I would like to install to other computers from this one. The other windows 7 computer has a whole hard drive full of programs that I would like to do the same with. Yes I do have access from this computer to all its partitions and the other computer has access to all its hard drives. Please give step by step instructions, please!!

Ok did what you suggested and now when I go to another computer and try to access the drive or partition in question I immediately get a "access denied message, please see your network administrator for permission to gain access". Printer is shared between all computers, no problem can print and access public folders fromall computers. try to access any other folders that are shared or drives or partitions and I get the access denied messages. Apparently setting a folder to shared on a computer only shares that folder with other users of the same computer and not with the home group. Something is fouled up somewhere bad, and I do not know where????????????????????????

But before you do that, go back to the pc which you have share out the drive and go to start> under search type cmd and hit enter, a cmd prompt box should appear, next type ipconfig /all and hit enter. Look for the IP address, as in IPv4 address 203.166.xx.xxx (preferred) write down this address and next go to the other comps and click on start, under the search box type the following \\ 203.166.xx.xxx and hit enter, you should be able to see the shares disk, printers and files provided you didn't install any third party firewall like ZA etc

McAfee firewall/virus software is blocking almost everything. Really big problem is that McAfee is free from my ISP and my ISP will not support other software, some kind of deal going on between the two, Either McAfee owns my isp or the other way around. Just to properly uninstall McAfee one has to call McAfee and get a link emailed to them, so you can download the software neccessary to completely uninstall McAfee.

Under the security tag on the drive/folder bring shared make sure that the specific user group being used to access the computer is listed and is allowed to: "read & execute | Modify | Read | Write | List file and folders" <- those are the particular ones you need any others are just bonus. Also under 'Network and Sharing' the network you are connected to is cofigured in windows as a 'Home Network' this reduces the security settings on the local area allowing other computers to see the one trying to be accessed. That should solver any access issues.

You should be able to uninstall mcafee firewall under add/remove

hi all, i went through a lot of threads because i couldn't acces the non-public shared folders from another computer on the homegroup. to some helpful moderators the following might be too obvious to even mention but it was what i had overlooked. found on http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-add-folders-to-a-windows-7-homegroup.html "You can also make a folder available to the HomeGroup without having to move it anywhere by controlling the way it is shared. To share a folder without moving it or adding it to any of your shared libraries: Navigate to the folder you want to put in the HomeG roup. Chose Start→Computer and then locate the folder you want to share. On the menu bar, click the Share With button and choose how you want the folder shared. "
